ALICE IN WONDERLAND

2024 End Title Sequence

Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop

Alice in Wonderland is a 2010 film directed by Tim Burton. This is an adaptation of this classic novel by Lewis Carroll that follows the main character Alice at the age of 19 going through a fantasy world that she traveled to as a child.

For this title sequence, I want to explore how Wonderland represents the struggle to survive in the adult world. Since this adaptation is of Alice as an adult I will be trying to appeal to an older audience.

Ideation

For this project, I carefully analyzed movie scenes to create the end title sequence. Using Photoshop as my main tool, I combined and edited various images to make them appear as though they belonged in the same environment. By adjusting the color balance and applying a paper texture, I achieved a cohesive look that mimicked a child's coloring book. This approach aligned perfectly with the film's theme of maintaining a childlike spirit into adulthood.

Animation Process

My objective for this end sequence was to incorporate subtle motion within the scenes. I discovered that using parallax in 3D space achieved this effect most effectively. I positioned all these edited images within the same environment and layered them at different depths in z-space. By moving them across the x-axis and simultaneously shifting the camera, I created a parallax effect.

To add the animated text, I chose a gold effect, inspired by the 2010 world of Alice in Wonderland. I also decided to keep the text in 2D space, ensuring the names are easy to read in the end sequence.
